To prospective & committed players: Guys have been emailing and asking what they need to do...well here's a list: 1.) Register with USA Hockey if you are not already...go to http://www.usahockeyregistration.com/ …click ice players and coaches...it will then prompt you to register for the 2007-2008 season....it is required 2.) Complete the Following membership application, save it on your hard drive after you have completed the info and then email it back to centexhockey@yahoo.com Membership application: Click Here 2.) We need sponsors…it will be hard to exist without them…we need them to assist with uniform, travel, ice time costs (or tourney entry fee costs) and website costs...please contact businesses, etc. that you know and tell them what we are all about...refer them to our website to see the by-laws, etc…we can put patches on the jerseys, the businesses info on our website and business info on game day handouts if we have a special event against another public safety team, exhibition with a youth team or ice bats here at Chaparral Ice 3.) Spread the word throughout your respective departments to get more players involved...the more the better 4.) Get equipment....Check the by-laws Article I, section 4 to see what is needed...here's some web sites that I have had success ordering from: www.hockeygiant.com, www.icewarehouse.com, www.hockeyworld.com, and www.discounthockey.com if you have questions about sizing, etc. let me know (skates don't always run true to your actual shoe size so ordering those on line is risky unless you know what size you wear) 5.) Practice skating on your own...go to http://www.chaparralice.com/ and click on schedules off to the left and then public skating, stick and puck, drop in, etc....in order to do stick and puck, drop in, etc you need to be registered with USA Hockey (see #1 above--do that ASAP) and wear full equipment---you can purchase punch cards from chap ice...let me know if you need assistance with this--its cheaper this way I am hoping everyone can pretty much work on their own at this point either with public skating, power skating sessions, stick and puck, drop in or playing in one of the leagues at Chaparral Ice...there is a lite league that is really informal that should be starting up again after the holidays and is cheaper than the regular league...I will also try to co-ordinate times when a bunch of us could go to drop in or stick and puck together (and maybe money permitting set up practices or scrimmages, etc)...at this point the cost will be up to each individual Here's how I see this whole thing working: We are affiliated with the Central Texas Wolfpack public safety football team ( www.centraltexaswolfpack.com ) and classified as a §501(c)(3) non profit organization under their Central Texas Public Safety Sports Teams non profit organization (we have joined their organization)....any profits from games, etc will go to a local charity We will maintain an open roster...anyone who is employed by a public safety organization is eligible to join the team (Police, Fire, EMS, Military, Correctional, etc.)...In order to join the team we will have dues that need to be paid...At this point, because of the varying levels of skill involved we will all basically play on our own teams in the leagues, drop in sessions, stick and puck or whatever at Chaparral Ice to maintain our skills...Eventually we may be able to form 2 or 3 teams based on skill level and play in the league in different divisions... We will coordinate with other teams in Texas or surrounding states as far as playing games against them or attending public safety tournaments...for example lets say we play the team from San Antonio up here...we will promote the game, charge a minimal entry fee for fans and the proceeds will go to charity...we will also try to play in various public safety tournaments around the area and country (depending on money)...I am also hoping to coordinate with the Ice Bats to possibly play a game against another public safety team where we would play immediately before one of the bat's games and collect donations for our charity I will need everyone to try to pass around the word about the team in their respective organizations so we can try to get as many players as we can involved...that way we will have a pool of players in the event of work conflicts, etc. Please let me know of any ideas or suggestions you may have...I'm hoping we can get this going soon...we have enough interested players who already play in the league that we can get this off the ground pretty quick if we can generate a few sponsors and collect some money for jerseys/socks Please feel free to call me if you would like to discuss any of this or provide feedback/suggestions Talk to everyone soon, Andrew Kos
